(Hamburg/Germany) The environmental service provider take-e-way GmbH advises all manufacturers, importers and distributors of photovoltaic modules not to conclude any recycling contracts or contracts for the provision of services yet in order to complete the processing of the WEEE directive.
The WEEE directive regulates in summary the professional recycling of electrical and electronic devices and its financing by the manufacturers.
From 2014 on, photovoltaic modules will be included in the German conversion of the WEEE directive: The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).
Competition of the WEEE service providers is being expected from 2014 on
The revised WEEE directive should be implemented in national law until February 2014.
Then a greater competition of the recycling and service providers is being expected.
From next year on the PV industry will have the convenience to freely choose among the service providers and to refer to very cost-efficient solutions of established service providers.
PV manufacturers should not be bound by contractual agreements
“PV manufacturers, importers and distributors are only able to accept the best offers if they are not bound by contractual agreements.“, said the manager of take-e-way Oliver Friedrichs in Hamburg today.
Due to the usual periods of notice to the end of the year, the companies should check their current contracts with regard to the terms and act fast if possible.
Treatment of modules in cooperation with Exner Trenntechnik
take-e-way is developing an efficient process for the treatment of photovoltaic modules in cooperation with the Exner Trenntechnik GmbH.
Already now treatment trials are showing that PV modules may be separated into individual raw materials in an economically viable way.
International network to take-back and recycle PV modules
In addition, take-e-way is further expanding its international network to take-back and recycle PV modules.
The aim is to be able to offer logistics and recycling solutions to internationally acting manufacturers of PV modules already at the beginning of the take-back obligation of PV modules not only in the European member states.
The VERE Association is participating in the Round Table of the PV industry in Vienna/Austria
On November 6th, the VERE Association, the political wing of take-e-way, will lecture on the topic “Recycling of PV modules” in front of the Round Table in the Economic Chamber in Vienna (Austria).
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (MEZ) in the Wiedner Hauptstraße 63, 1040 Wien.
