The EAR Foundation (German WEEE and battery registration board) invites German sellers and producers of electrical appliances to take part in the nationwide campaign weeks "Every plug counts! Germany collects e-waste". These will take place around Global Recycling Day on 18 March 2025. The aim is to encourage consumers to dispose of old appliances correctly so that the take-back of old appliances, financed by the fees charged by registered companies, works properly and valuable raw materials are preserved for the economic cycle. The campaign aims to ensure that the sellers, producers and authorities fulfil their respective roles in promoting the correct collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). In addition to preserving raw materials, the campaign has another important goal: to counteract the thinning out of the German recycling infrastructure caused by fires in treatment facilities due to improperly disposed lithium batteries in waste electrical and electronic equipment.
This is why the WEEE service provider take-e-way and the Association for the take-back and recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (VERE) are supporting the important EAR initiative with the #LithiumUnites campaign. This aims to prevent fires caused by improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries. Producers and sellers are invited to request a free aid package containing instructions and materials for the safe disposal of batteries, especially for German consumers. With the help of this free aid package, you too can help protect the German recycling infrastructure and increase safety in waste management facilities.
